COMPANY HISTORY

Gemini Sounds has been in the entertainment business for 33 years with over 1,400 private/corporate functions to our name, 75% being weddings.

Let me introduce myself, I'm Ian Cuff and started DJ work in the early 70s at a local youth club. In 1975 I started out as a mobile DJ for the first time under the name of Gemini Sounds. In the early years most of our work was in the wedding market where we soon earned a good reputation. In the early 80s I started to work at Falstaffs Wine bar in Ilford, Essex - jazz funk two nights a week and 60s night once a month. Also in the late 80s I worked at the Epping Forest Country Club.

During the 90s we continued with the investment programme and constantly upgraded the equipment. The saddest part was the move away from vinyl to CD but this just had to be done. Also at this time I began to provide entertainment for special occasions such as barmitzvahs, masonics and corporate work and, if the client hadn't already arranged a professional dedicated toastmaster, I provided this service as well.

By the early nineties many top London agents had us on their books, and quality bookings started rolling in, working in places like the Grand Ballroom at the Dorchester Hotel, the New Connaught Rooms Holborn, Café Royal, Hilton Park Lane and in fact most of London’s top hotels.

Over the last ten years we have invested thousands of pounds in new equipment and actively targeted the Essex wedding market. Having been a guest at a number of weddings it was obvious to me there was a need for a truly professional mobile disco. One that would provide all the little extras at a price that’s affordable. I now believe we have achieved this.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD DJ?

We think it is the ability to read the reactions of the crowd and play the right music at the right time. Our aim is to cater for as many musical tastes as possible and never play that one request which we know will clear the dance floor.

The DJ must have a personality and be able to communicate with the audience; we never forget the client is paying for our services. The success of the function is our future.

We also believe the DJ and crew should be smartly dressed at all times. At Gemini Sounds we always wear dinner suits unless instructed by the client that informal dress is preferred.
